IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.

The building that houses University College was called University College until May 19, 2008. On that date, it was officially renamed Joseph Taylor Hall. Dr. Joseph Taylor served as dean of the Indianapolis Regional Campus from 1967-1970 and was the first dean of the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.
The building served as IUPUI's first University Library before the campus's academic needs outgrew the facility. It currently houses the Multicultural Success Center, as well as University College, where most undergraduates at IUPUI begin their academic careers.
