IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.

The IUPUI campus has made a significant contribution to Indianapolis' reputation as "the Amateur Sports Capital of the World." Thanks to campus facilities like the Natatorium and the Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium, the city has regularly hosted national and international sporting events that put Indy's best foot forward.
Those facilities were created to attract world-class, events while simultaneously offering athletic facilities for health-conscious Hoosiers. In both goals, IUPUI's athletic assets have succeeded beyond anyone's wildest dreams. America's greatest track athletes, swimmers and divers have turned the Natatorium and Carroll Stadium into sites of international glory and achievement during Olympic Trials and other major competitions.

Both the Natatorium and Carroll Stadium have seen numerous world and national records, as well as historic individual and team match-ups. The Natatorium regularly served as an international stage for the graceful championship style of Olympic gold medal diver Greg Louganis and a host of Olympic swimmers whose names adorn the pool's southern wall.
The Indianapolis Tennis Center, which opened in 1979 and closed in 2010, likewise has hosted world-class athletes. Hall of Fame stars like John McEnroe and Pete Sampras have won the RCA Championships hard-court tennis tournament, which was one of the top tournaments in men's professional tennis. McEnroe, Jimmy Connors and others won titles on the clay courts of the Tennis Center from 1979-87. The Indianapolis Tennis Center also has hosted such prestigious events as the Davis Cup, the world's largest annual tennis tournament.
