[A. Biehle] Growing up, I wasn’t really involved in pageants. I started when I got out of high school, and I had some friends that did it, and I thought it was a great opportunity and great experience, so I jumped in, and I did it. My first year, I’d just turned nineteen, so I was a Miss contestant, and I made top fifteen, so I tried a little bit harder next year, came back and was second runner-up, and third time, I worked very hard, found out who I was, and I was able to win, and now, I’ve worked very hard to go. I’m going to Miss USA.

I mean with anything you do, you need to know who you are, and what you’re capable of, and always push yourself to be better. When it was with the pageants, it’s always finding who I am, things that I can work for as Miss USA. With school, it’s again, finding who you are, working towards those good grades, working towards your education and to what you want to fulfill. I want to be dentist, and go to the IU School of Dentistry, and that’s finding who I am, how I can help my patients in the long run. So, it’s all about knowing who you are, and following what you believe in and working hard for it.

I chose dentistry. I always kind of had it in the back of my mind that’s what I wanted to do, but my senior year of high school, I was given a great internship opportunity with my uncle, and it really, for sure, said to me, that’s what I want to do with my life. I want to be able to give my patients, when they come in, that smile that they’ve always wanted and go and want to show it to everyone. I’m a firm believer in smiling is contagious, so anytime I can help someone with their smile, I want to pass it on. I really want to do that and help better my patients’ smile.

I mean no matter what degree you choose; if it’s business, if it’s medical, we have all the hospitals around; we have so many amazing businesses right downtown. You get the opportunity, those internships, things you can go and shadow, so I love being right downtown, and we’re such a diverse school. I love that, and I mean look at it. It’s amazingly beautiful here. You get to sit in the courtyard and see the green grass, but then you get to look at the skyscrapers in the background. It’s kind of the best of all worlds here.
