[C. Copp] Hello everyone, and welcome back to school! Iím Capri Copp, your host for the August 18th edition of IUPUIís The Spot.
Still need to purchase textbooks? Running low on cash? Well, instead of purchasing your textbooks, try renting them from the Barnes & Noble IUPUI Bookstore. You can rent books just for the semester you need them, saving you time and hassle. The Spot spoke with Michele Carter for more information.
[M. Carter]Barnes & Noble in Indiana University felt that it was very important to provide lower priced textbooks for students. A textbook rental program makes us more competitive with online and other stores.
Textbooks will be available for about a quarter of our book list at more than fifty percent savings of the retailed new price of a book. Students can rent textbooks either in store or online.
The policies for this would include; they can write and highlight in the book to a moderate level, they will be able to rent textbooks all semester, even for late starting classes, and the textbooks would need to be returned before the last ten days after the final.
Students are more than happy to check out our website at www.iupui.bncollege.com for more information.
[C. Copp] As you may, or may not know, parking at the beginning of the year, on this campus, will be tricky. We want to encourage you to come early. Everyoneís trying to get to the exact same place at the exact same time. So have patience and get here early, start at the outer lots and work your way in.
Jags Express provides convenient and reliable transportation throughout the IUPUI campus, including pick-ups every 10 minutes from the Indiana Ave. lots and Bush Stadium. Meet other students, explore campus life, and have fun while doing it! WOW, Weeks of Welcome, is a two-and-a-half week-long celebration filled with games, food and fun. There is something for everyone with events like WOW fest, Movie in the Courtyard, and Green Generation Fair. The first events kick off Sunday, August 22nd with the New Student Welcome in Campus Center Room 450 at 2 pm, followed by the Playfair at Taylor Courtyard at 2:45 pm. We spoke with Colby Shank for the details.
[C. Shank] WOW is just an introduction to life outside classes at IUPUI, so students can see what type of student organizations they can get involved with, what type of student activities are available to them; it introduces them to life in downtown Indianapolis. It just shows another side of campus, that student life side thatís not a part of class.
Weeks of Welcome is the first two weeks of class. The first is IUPUI goes to Jillianís. Our second event is on Thursday, August 26th, and that is our first movie in the courtyard, which weíll be showing Iron Man 2. Itís completely free to students, and itís also sponsored by the three Greek councils on campus as well.
[C. Copp] You can view a full listing of events at wow.iupui.edu.
The IUPUI Student Employment and Experience Fair will be Thursday, August 26th from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. Come out to Taylor Courtyard, with resume in hand, to meet with approximately 100 on- and off-campus employers, who are interested in hiring IUPUI students during the school year.
Remember to not leave home without your JagTag. It serves not only as your campus ID, but also as a library card, a discount card and much more. JagTag will hold a JagPerks discount and resource fair on Monday, August 30th from 10 am to 2 pm, also at the Taylor Courtyard. Learn about the many discounts, conveniences, and resources available to IUPUI students with your JagTag.
Thatís it for The Spot this week. Be sure to tunein on September 1st for the latest campus news and student activities at jagtv.iupui.edu.
Iím Capri Copp, and thanks for Spotting us!
