[T. POTTS] We\'ve been working with United Way for 6 years with the department in terms of the service learning component and for the last two years I’ve been serving as the communications chair for the emerging leader’s society with United Way. I first became aware of United Way through a service learning project with the department.

All of our g100 students need to volunteer somewhere in the community for 5 hours. That semester we worked with the Hawthorne center and with Gleaners food bank also some other organizations here in the city, and just to see what IUPUI does and what the United Way does and can do together, its quite inspiring.

Whether it’s the hard labor at Gleaners food bank or working with children in one of their with their associations, it’s what life is for, it feels good.

I tell my students when you’re depressed, when you’re bored, when you don’t know what to do, just get off your keister and do something in the community, and this is a fantastic way to do it. You don’t have to work with United Way but I have seen it work first hand and I know that it can and I believe it’s something we should all get behind.

IUPUI has continued to rank first over the last several years in terms of giving, it’s something we should all be very proud of, lets continue to set that pace.

Give United, Live United.
