My name's Christopher Hardin. I'm a senior here at IUPUI in the School of Informatics, going into the New Media Program for video and audio production, and I also have a music minor.
I want to focus on music production. Music's just a big thing for me. Working with computers as well is another thing. And applying them both together is a powerful thing, especially during today's time. Since I love music so much I'd just love to into the producing field. Music production is just something I want to touch base with. It's just a great thing to work with - working with artists, working with software, and things of that nature. It's a creative tool and it's just limitless.
In the New Media Program, like I said, I'm focusing on video and audio production. That's something that I'd like to take and apply to the music production field. I'm learning a lot of great things with the programs that we have here. We have Final Cut on Mac if you're a Mac person. On the PC side, we have Adobe Premiere, everything's up to date.
I have to put forth my best effort. If it takes all night for me to get something done, I'll do it. I'll crank out hours to make sure I get the right product - what I want done.
Being here in the New Media field has its advantages. We have software and hardware that's available to us students. Fortunately, it's here for us to use, and here for us to use on a regular basis. That's something I'm proud of. I enjoy this school. I actually got into this school by accident. When I first got here at IUPUI, I was looking for sound engineering in the Purdue school and they said they don't offer it. But my advisor linked me with New Media and it stuck with me ever since.
I was a member of Black Student Union and I ended up being the Communications Chair, putting on events, letting people know what was going on. I also transitioned to being Vice President. I'm also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The fraternity was founded at Indiana University back in 1911. I'm looking forward to our centennial coming up in Indianapolis. I'm a member here through the chapter, and I'm also a board member through regional area through 5 states
And I can't leave this out, would be Orientation Services, also known as the OTEAM. OTEAM has given me a jump start with connections, building up my leadership role, my mentoring role as a person, and I've been with that going on 5 years now.
And I've been a student coordinator for two years, going on third, and it's just been a great experience. It's been a great experience working with students as they're coming in, letting them know how their freshman experience is going to be.
Being a student mentor is another thing I do. I've been a student mentor for the Informatics learning community, too. Each year, I just let them know that when you come into the School of Informatics, the things you learn are great. But how you apply them comes from you, it always starts with you. You can learn as much stuff as you want to, but you have to put forth the effort to make it work. And your work is what makes things shine. So, it depends on how much effort, how much enthusiasm, how much passion you put into your work. And that's what's important.
