Outrun the Sun

IUPUI is honored to host the 2008 Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma. The event will take place on the IUPUI Library Lawn on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 7:00 pm. This race helps generate funding for melanoma education and research initiatives supported by Outrun the Sun, Inc. Events include a 5 mile competitive run, 5K non-competitive run / walk, and a 1-mile non-competitive fun walk. Post race activities include live music, food, exhibit booths, melanoma survivor recognition and the Outrun the Sun Kid’s Race.

A few facts about Melanoma:

  • Melanoma is the number one cancer in young women ages 20-29
  • Since the 1970’s, the number of melanoma cases diagnosed annually has doubled
  • It is estimated that by 2010 one in 50 people will be diagnosed with melanoma
  • It is estimated that over 8,000 people will die of melanoma this year.

IUPUI is forming a team for the Outrun the Sun. Join Team Jaguars by signing up at www.outrunthesun.org. Follow the directions to sign up on a team and register under IUPUI Team Jaguars. Each team member will receive all the Outrun the Sun gear as well as an exclusive IUPUI Team Jaguars / Outrun the Sun T-shirt.

Deadline for registrations is Wednesday, May 21.
