Dr. Seuss' Read Across America
The National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on or around Dr. Seuss' birthday.
IUPUI has been involved with this program since 2002. The Office of Community Relations and the men and women's soccer teams have gone out into the community to throw "Dr. Seuss reading parties" at the IUPUI Child Care Center and at Riley Hospital for children. In 2005 the event at Riley featured a storytelling area, along with arts and crafts for the kids to enjoy. Jinx was happy to make an appearance as well!
The IUPUI Office of Community Relations "Good Friends" program has been a strong supporter of this day as well through holding reading parties at several IPS schools throughout the city.
