UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE RECEIVES THREE AWARDS
FROM
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION
IUPUI University College has received three prestigious awards from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), announced Scott Evenbeck, Dean of University College.
The organization selected the University College Advising for its Outstanding Institutional Advising Program. Catherine Buyarski directs the Advising Center.
Melissa Phillips Cooper, University College Academic Advisor, is the recipient of the Outstanding Advisor Award, which recognizes her significant contributions to the improvement of advising and in the delivery of services to students.
The third award University College received was for the Outstanding Advising Publication for its recent "Survival Guide to Registration" brochure. The award recognizes outstanding and creative advising materials. Under the direction of Harriett Bennett, Assistant Dean, the department has received 13 national awards in the past 15 years.
The major program activities of University College include orientation, learning communities centering on a first year course taught by an instructional team, academic advising, critical inquiry and structured learning assistance classes, the effective use of technology to support learning, and a learning center that provides supplemental instruction, general education, and co-curricular programs. The initiatives are all designed to strengthen academic foundations for IUPUI students and to provide a seamless environment of curricular and co-curricular programming.
Since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to higher education.
