HERRON STUDENTS TO EXHIBIT IN DEAN JOHNSON GALLERY

INDIANAPOLIS - Some of Herron School of Art's most talented students will be taking their show on the road this January.

Twenty two students who received awards at the school's annual student show, which closed last week, will display their work at a month-long exhibit at Dean Johnson Gallery, 646 Massachusetts Ave. The exhibit will run from Jan. 12 - Feb. 15, 2001.

"Being invited to show one's work in a commercial art gallery is the height of professionalism," said Herron Gallery Director David Russick. "The Dean Johnson Gallery is providing each of these students an invaluable opportunity."

Guest juror Julia Muney Moore from the Indianapolis Art Center chose 22 best of show and honorable mention winners from among those chosen to participate in the student show.

"I am continually amazed by the capacity of Herron students to push the envelope of creativity, especially within the context of class assignments," said Muney Moore, director of Exhibitions and Artist Services for the Indianapolis Art Center. "I was heartened to find plenty of work that maintained Herron's reputation as a breeding ground for the next generation of artists for Indiana and the world."

The student show is an annual exhibit in which Herron freshman, sophomores, and juniors may apply to participate. The exhibit features work from each of the school's seven departments. A juror awards one best of show award for each department along with two honorable mentions. This year the first Philip Dortch Drawing Award was also announced.

Award winners and their hometowns are listed below:

• Best of Show - Junior Tyler MacDonald, South Bend
• Honorable Mentions - Junior Hadley Evans of New Bedford, Mass. and Junior Cayce Kolstad of Martinsville

• Best of Show - Junior Stefanie Gerber of Hoffman Estates, Ill. ·
• Honorable Mentions - Junior Joshua Witten of Brownsburg and Junior Julia Zollman Wickes of Bedford

• Best of Show - Sophomore Ben Roe of Fishers
• Honorable Mentions - Sophomore Rebecca Rudolf of Mooresville and sophomore Amber Swails of Coatesville

• Best of Show - Junior Chase Mitchell of Brownsburg
• Honorable Mentions - Junior Crystal Horton of Indianapolis and sophomore Charity Williams of Laramie, Wyo.

• Best of Show - Senior Marty Sharp of Indianapolis
• Honorable Mentions - Sophomore Tracy Fields of Zionsville and sophomore Aaron Minnis of Indianapolis

• Best of Show - Freshman Jan Michael Bennett of South Bend
• Honorable Mentions - Junior Tracey Jo Bush of Greenwood and sophomore Christopher Williams of Indianapolis

• Best of Show - Sophomore Myra Risley Perrin of Indianapolis
• Honorable Mentions - Sophomore Paul Besel of Indianapolis and senior John Rothenbuhler of Indianapolis
