INDIANA UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY OF SPSS ENTERPRISE LICENSE AGREEMENT

In January of 2000, the University Information Technology Services Center for Statistical and Mathematical Computing (Stat/Math Center) announced that it had negotiated a University-wide site license agreement with SPSS, Inc., making SPSS statistical software for Windows (and later Macintosh) available to Indiana University SPSS users for $5 per CD. Just one year later, nearly 3,600 SPSS CDs have been distributed at IUB and IUPUI.

For an individual at an educational institution without a site license agreement, the usual cost of a single CD is around $1,500. The value Indiana University has received from this license is at least $5.4M.

"The cost savings and the number of CDs distributed in the last year demonstrate the value of this agreement," said Christopher Peebles, Associate Vice President and Dean for Information Technology, IUB. "The ability to distribute popular software at a low cost has certainly served to help fulfill Indiana University¹s goal of enhancing research, instruction, and learning in the university community."
