SCHOOL OF LIBERAL ARTS DEAN'S DAY PROGRAM SET

INDIANAPOLIS - Has film warped society's view of historical events, politics, law and literature?

Find out when the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI presents "Screening the Liberal Arts" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28 at University Library, 755 W. Michigan St.

Featured speakers will include Jeff Sparks, president of the Heartland Film Festival; "Nuvo Newsweekly" film reviewer Anne Laker; and several Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis faculty members. Topics include history and film; educational reform; and law, lawyers and trials in Silva's America.

"Screening the Liberal Arts" is the Dean's Day 2000 celebration sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts and its Alumni Association. The annual Dean's Day program is open to the public and provides the opportunity for the Indianapolis community, IUPUI campus and alumni to celebrate the diversity of liberal arts through a specific theme each year.

"We will explore how film enriches our understanding of the liberal arts and how the humanities and social sciences play a vital role in the continuing development of this pervasive visual and narrative form," said Dennis Bingham, associate professor of English and faculty member of the Program for Theatre, Film and Media Arts at IUPUI.

Kenote speaker is Kristine Karnick of the Program for Theatre, Film and Media Arts. During a special luncheon, Pat McGeever, professor of political science at IUPUI, will present "Film and Fiction in Politics," which explores the "good old-fashioned" values that made America what she is now.

Registration is $35 for adults and $15 for students. Registration includes lunch at the University Place Hotel, 850 W. Michigan St.
