MITCH DANIELS TO PRESENT OPENING REMARKS AT BULEN SYMPOSIUM ON AMERICAN POLITICS AT IUPUI
A high ranking Bush Administration official who is one of the founders of the annual Bulen Symposium on American Politics at IUPUI will participate in this year's symposium that focuses on redistricting issues.
Mitch Daniels, director of the Office Of Management and Budget (OMB), will present the opening remarks at the symposium, which begins at 8 a.m. Monday, December 10, at the University Place Conference Center, 850 W. Michigan Street, on the IUPUI campus. The symposium continues through a noon luncheon program on Monday, Dec. 10, at the University Place Conference Center, 850 W. Michigan Street, on the IUPUI campus.
"We are really fortunate that Bulen co-founder Mitch Daniels will begin the day with a perspective from the Bush administration," said symposium co-chair Shelia S. Kennedy. "Mitch is one of the most insightful observers on the political scene, and he tells it like it is."
This year's theme is "The Dividing Lines of American Politics: Redistricting, the Parties and the Public." The event will include panel discussions and individual presentations on several topics including redistricting in the electronic age and redistributing political clout.
Local, state and national leaders in politics, business and education who will speak at the symposium include Charles S. Bullock III, political science professor, University of Georgia, Athens, Ga.; syndicated columnist Rhodes Cook; Dan Johnson-Weinberger, Center for Voting and Democracy; John L. Korey, professor, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Calif.; Indiana State Senator Patricia Miller; and Paul Taylor, executive director, Alliance for Better Campaigns.
The seminar fee of $50 per person includes lunch and parking. Sponsor tickets with program recognition are $75 each. Deadline for lunch reservations is Dec. 5. To register, call (317) 274-5053 or (317) 274-3277.
The annual symposium, now in its fourth year, was founded by Daniels and other friends of L. Keith Bulen, a key political figure in Indiana and beyond for three decades before his death in January 1999.
