FEDERAL GRANT WILL ALLOW IUPUI PROFESSOR TO HELP
LOCAL NONPROFIT REGROUP

INDIANAPOLIS - An IUPUI professor will help a local nonprofit organization for American Indians improve short and long-range planning so it can better serve its constituents across the state.

As part of a more than $60,000 federal grant, IUPUI organizational leadership and supervision Assistant Professor Andy Schaffer will work with the American Indian Center of Indiana (AICI) to help them become more structured and effective.

"AICI did an internal self-assessment and didn't feel they were as efficient and effective as possible in addressing the needs of Native Americans living in Indiana," said Schaffer.

The Native American Assistance Fund, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, awarded the grant to AICI. Half of the funds will go to Schaffer for his project, while the other half will help develop a web site, a newsletter and community outreach programs.

Schaffer expects to complete the project within the next ten months.
