IUPUI to Observe King Day of Service, Jan. 15, Volunteer Sign-ups Open

INDIANAPOLIS – Registration is underway for the 2007 IUPUI Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Organized by Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholars, the event will be observed from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 15, 2007.

The Day of Service is an IUPUI tradition of living out King’s legacy of civic engagement by spending the holiday named in his honor as a “day on” of community service. IUPUI students, faculty and staff, and friends of the IUPUI campus are invited to join Sam H. Jones Service Scholars as they volunteer their services to help a number of local service agencies.

The Day of Service will begin with a volunteer breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. After breakfast, volunteers will report in groups to assigned service sites where they will assist non-profit organizations in various tasks.
