IUPUI Therapeutic Massage Program Offers First Daytime ClassINDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI Therapeutic Massage Program will offer a daytime massage therapy class beginning Jan. 8, 2007. This 500-hour certification program will run through September 2007, with classes meeting from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of each week. Persons completing this program are able to qualify for positions as trained and knowledgeable massage therapists in a variety of settings – spas, sports complexes, and chiropractor and doctor offices. In an article dated Nov. 19, 2005, the U.S. Department of Labor states that “… consumers spend between $4 billion and $6 billion a year on visits to massage therapists. This high demand for the benefits of massage therapy – stress relief and help for those with illness or chronic pain – is creating a correspondingly strong demand for professional massage therapists trained at reputable massage schools.” The IUPUI Therapeutic Massage Program recognizes the skillful application of massage therapy as a viable healing alternative. In keeping with this philosophy, IUPUI is committed to offering a comprehensive program that will develop professional massage therapists.
