IUPUI Family Invited to Autograph Top Beam of New Campus Center

INDIANAPOLIS – Construction of the IUPUI Campus Center is history in the making. IUPUI students, staff and faculty forever can be a part of that history by signing the building’s “topping-off beam.”

Traditionally a “topping-off” ceremony is held to mark the placing of the last beam in the construction of a new building. In honor of that tradition, Campus Center officials are inviting members of the IUPUI community to sign their names to a beam that will be among the last steel structures added to the Campus Center.

“This is a chance to be a part of history and to celebrate a milestone in the construction of the building,” said Susan Canady, associate director of the IUPUI Campus Center.

The “topping-off” beam will be available for signing until noon Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, on the first floor of University College, 815 W. Michigan St.

Construction crews are expected to place the final beams of the Campus Center building within the next few weeks. The $50 million building is scheduled for opening in fall 2007.
