Graduate Music Recital to Feature Live, Virtual PerformancesINDIANAPOLIS – An upcoming multi-media recital at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) features original works by graduate music students, including those earning degrees without ever setting foot on the campus. IU School of Music at IUPUI will present its “Music Graduate Recital” from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, in Room 152 of the IT Building located at 535 W. Michigan St. All current students in the Master’s of Music Technology (MSMT) degree program will participate in the recital, performing various responsibilities from event planning and public relations, to tech and stage crew operations, to onsite and offsite physical performances using cutting-edge technology. All performances are original works by the students. Offsite recital performers have sent their performances online in various formats – some will even perform live from a remote location. The recital is free of charge to the public. IUPUI music technology graduate students include students located from Massachusetts to Texas to Washington to Greece. These offsite students complete classes and participate online with real time streaming audio/video while local students come to the onsite music labs to participate live. One MSMT student states, “It is a challenge to learn to shuffle all the open screens of video, chat, files, lessons, and websites, but it is definitely worth the effort to avoid having to drive long distances or relocate for a span of time.” The MSMT program includes instruction in music production, multimedia and music technology, website design for musicians, sound design, and emerging digital arts technologies. Classes are archived for future reference for students. Many of the graduate-level students are teachers, professors, directors, recording professionals and performers with full-time jobs. The MSMT degree work thrives on networking among these music industry professionals. |
