Spirit & Place Presents a Public Conversation with Sr. Joan Chittister, Angelo Pizzo, and Manning MarableINDIANAPOLIS – The Public Conversation, the centerpiece event of the annual Spirit & Place celebration, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University. Doors open at 3 p.m. A book signing will be held in the Clowes lobby following the event. Eavesdrop on the spontaneous exchange as award-winning author and human rights champion Sr. Joan Chittister; Hoosier film writer/producer Angelo Pizzo; and African American studies and ethnic studies scholar Manning Marable discuss “Tradition & Innovation.” Scott Russell Sanders, an award-winning Indiana author, will moderate the event. This year’s Spirit & Place runs Nov. 3 through Nov. 19. About 80 programs will comprise the cultural celebration administered by The Polis Center, part of the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI. The Public Conversation is free of charge and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets, four per person, are available now at the Clowes box office, 4602 Sunset Ave. Box office hours are: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday–Friday, and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday. Group tickets for 10 or more people are available by calling Spirit & Place at (317) 278-3623. The 11th annual Public Conversation is made possible through the support of Lilly Endowment Inc., Butler University, IUPUI/IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, University of Indianapolis, and a matching grant from the Indiana Humanities Council in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities.
