IU Dental Student Is National Group’s Delegate of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS – IU School of Dentistry dental student Carl Drake has been named national Delegate of the Year by the American Student Dental Association (ASDA), the student equivalent of the American Dental Association. He accepted the honor during the organization’s recent annual session in Baltimore.

Drake is a fourth-year dental student from El Paso, Ill., and president of ASDA’s Indiana chapter.

“My award is a reflection of what our entire chapter has done,” says Drake, who orchestrated a drive that boosted ASDA membership in Indiana by 50 percent.

The Indiana chapter has recently initiated a Speakers Series for its members and is currently working with the dental school administration to reexamine school attendance policies. Last year, Drake and other ASDA representatives wrote letters to the state governor and attorney general for a campaign that helped bring about changes to dental licensing laws in Indiana.

For these and other accomplishments, IU was also honored in Baltimore as ASDA’s Most Improved Chapter.
