A Word from the Chancellor: United Way Campaign to Run Sept. 20 - Oct. 18

Just one year ago, the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina reinforced for all of us the need for services to be in place when disaster strikes so that help can be mobilized quickly. The many United Way agencies that receive funding through our pledges provide a variety of services not only at times of crisis but year-round. They need our support more than ever so that our safety net is securely in place—ready to see us through the unexpected should adversity hit close to home and ready every day for those in need.

United Way is one of the most important organizations in our community because it provides an efficient and effective way to bring private resources to bear on health and human service issues in our community.

It offers us an avenue for expressing our commitment as individuals to improving the quality of life in our city and symbolizes the institutional character and values we hold dear in our university community.

United Way of Central Indiana has developed an excellent process for identifying the community's most important priorities and measuring the impact of the programs and projects it helps to fund.

This year, we have set a goal of raising $360,000 and having 20% participation in the IUPUI United Way campaign. The campaign will run from September 20 through October 18. I hope you will make a special effort to make this year’s United Way campaign a great success.

Charles R. Bantz
Chancellor
