IUPUI Program Offers Prep for National Exams in Reflexology

INDIANAPOLIS – The best known foot massage is reflexology, according to one spa guide.

Individuals who aspire to work in the growing therapeutic spa and holistic health industry can prepare for national certification in reflexology through continuing education classes at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Reflexology is the systematic manipulation of reflexes on the feet to produce a state of relaxation in corresponding internal body organs and thereby promote better health, improved circulation and alleviation of pain and stress.

The 200-hour Reflexology Certification Program, offered through Continuing Studies at IUPUI, is a unique Indiana training program preparing reflexologists for certification by the American Reflexology Certification Board. It is specifically designed to teach Standard American Thumb and Finger-Walking techniques and other theories, techniques and business standards included in national certification testing.

Course content includes: 110 classroom hours covering theory, history and relaxation response; body systems, anatomy and reflexology relating to reflexology; reflexology map theory and practical application; business ethics and standards, ethical scope of practice; supervised clinicals that will offer measurements of competency in effective manipulation of reflexes; and 90 hours of case studies evaluated for adherence to ARCB protocol and standards.

Classes run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. most Sundays Sept. 10, 2006- Feb. 2007.

Costs include tuition fees of $2,280, a non-refundable $25 application fee, a $25 security fee, and textbook purchases.

For registration and additional information, including a course brochure, call (317) 278-7600.
