Bosron Appointed Interim Dean of School of Science

  Bill Bosron

Interim Dean of IUPUI's School of Science, William F. Bosron, Ph.D.

INDIANAPOLIS – William F. Bosron, Ph.D., Chancellor’s Professor, and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Indiana University School of Medicine, has been named Interim Dean of the School of Science at IUPUI, effective August 1, 2006.

Bosron succeeds Carl Cowen, who is leaving his position as Dean. Cowen retains his position as Professor of Mathematical Sciences and will become an active member of that department in the School of Science.

Bosron will serve as interim dean until a replacement for Cowen is appointed.

Noting his productive relationships with faculty in the School of Science through the years, Bosron said, “I look forward to working with the Science faculty as Interim Dean.”

From 1994 to 2005 Bosron served as Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies in the School of Medicine, where he organized the M.S., Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. programs. He wrote two of the components for the Indiana Genomics Initiative (INGEN), the Scholars Program for support of M.D./Ph.D. students and the INGEN Training Program for the Biotechnology Certificate and M.S. program that he continues to direct.

Bosron was recruited to IUPUI in 1975 by Ting-Kai Li to start an NIAAA-funded research program with human alcohol metabolizing enzymes (alcohol dehydrogenases). Beginning his career in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Bosron moved to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1986. He currently collaborates with colleagues in the Indiana Cancer Center on metabolism of anti-cancer prodrug esters.
