Three IUPUI Departments Awarded Integrative Grants

INDIANAPOLIS – Biology, Visual Communication, and the IUPUC Division of Education have been awarded Integrative Department Grants of $10,000 over a two-year period.

These grants, established by the Center on Integrating Learning (COIL) in the Office for Professional Development (OPD), provide funding and other resources to support departments wanting to integrate their discipline-specific learning outcomes with the Principles of Undergraduate Learning so that students may document their learning achievements in both.

Last year’s award recipients, Secondary Education in the School of Education and Computer and Information Technology in the School of Engineering and Technology, have developed two quite different integrative models, the former through assignments for key concepts at incremental stages, and the latter through piloting ePort in three different classes.

This year’s recipients will also be using ePort, the student electronic portfolio, to support the integration of discipline-specific learning outcomes with our Principles of Undergraduate Learning, which themselves have garnered two national awards this year, the Hesburgh Certificate of Excellence and the CHEA Award for Student Learning Outcomes.
