Indy Mayor Peterson to Deliver IUPUI Liberal Arts Graduation Address

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson will deliver the keynote address during the May 14 graduation ceremony for students in the IU School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

The ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, May 14 in the 500 Ballroom at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis. Tentatively, 421 students will receive degrees from the School of Liberal Arts during the event.

“(Peterson) is willing to make hard decisions, such as on cleaning our waterways, in order to make Indianapolis one of the best cities in the world,” said Robert White, dean of the School of Liberal Arts. “We look forward to the mayor’s presentation and to continuing to work with him to serve our city.”

The School of Liberal Arts ceremony is one of several school-level graduation ceremonies being held May 14. The IUPUI commencement exercise for the total of 5,430 IUPUI students eligible to receive degrees from Indiana University and Purdue University will be held at 3 p.m. on May 14 in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

During commencement IU will award an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree to Karl Zimmer Jr., former chair of the advisory board of the Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication. During the Campaign for IUPUI, Zimmer co-chaired the fund-raising efforts of the School of Liberal Arts, raising nearly $10 million.
