IUPUI English Professor Appointed to Hispanic/Latino Affairs Commission

INDIANAPOLIS – Ulla Connor, director of the Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication and professor of English in the IU School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, has been appointed to Gov. Mitch Daniels’ Indiana Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs Research Committee.

ICHLA’s strategic plan is an “ongoing roadmap to bridging the cultural gaps between Indiana Hispanics/Latinos and non-Hispanics/Latinos.” The ICHLA Research Committee, formed in 2006, will discuss such issues as state-wide system of translators and interpreters, standards for ESL endorsements, and Latino gangs. The committee will partner with the Indiana Supreme Court, Indiana Department of Education, Indianapolis Police Department, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Indiana Department of Health, Internal Revenue Service, and others to fulfill goals for the ICHLA’s 2006-2008 strategic plan.
