Videoconference Showcases IUPUI-University of Pacific Web Project

INDIANAPOLIS – An Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis professor and California college students with personal Web pages created using software developed by the professor met face-to-face today (April 27) via a live videoconference between their campuses.

The videoconference between Ali Jafari, professor of computer and information technology and director of CyberLab at IUPUI, and a group of University of the Pacific students took place from 10 a.m. to noon, Eastern Daylight Saving Time. Locally the videoconference was broadcast from the CyperLab, located on the third floor of the Walker Plaza, 719 Indiana Ave.

Under the direction of reading instructor Arthur Murrillo, the University of Pacific students have created electronic portfolios using Epsilen Environment Version 6, a package of software tools created by the IUPUI CyberLab. The software gives students personal Web pages on which to showcase their learning outcomes and accomplishments across the globe.

The videoconference showcased Pacific students’ Epsilen ePortfolios, providing a snapshot look at the future of job marketing since the ePortfolios can serve as evidence of student learning, skills, creativity, knowledge, and qualifications for jobs with employers.

Murrillo says the “I determined that the Epsilen Environment was the best fit for my students’ learning needs because Epsilen provides a dynamic experience that enhances students’ collaborative learning, organizational skills, technology skills, editing skills, reflective skills and career opportunities.”

Since February, students and faculty members at 39 colleges and universities have created ePortfolios using Epsilen.
