5,430 Students to Receive Degrees at IUPUI Commencement Ceremony

INDIANAPOLIS – A total of 5,430 students will be eligible to receive degrees at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis’s (IUPUI) commencement exercise on May 14, 2006.

The commencement exercise will be at 3 p.m. in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. Some 4,340 degrees will be awarded by IU and 967 by Purdue. This number includes 123 students from the IU Columbus campus.

William B. Wylam, chairman, Electricore, Inc., and corporate director, Technology for Remy International, Inc, will receive an Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Purdue University. Indiana University will award an honorary degree to Karl Zimmer Jr., former chair and CEO of Zimmer Paper Products, Inc., and former director of the Indiana Humanities Council. He will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

A total of 16,327 students will be eligible to receive degrees during Indiana University g commencement exercises on all IU campuses in May. There also are a total of 1,888 Purdue University degrees that will be conferred during IU commencement ceremonies.

The number of students at IUPUI to receive degrees include degree recipients from December 2005 and degree candidates for May, June and August 2006. Also included are graduate students whose degrees have been or will be awarded on a monthly basis during the 2005-06 academic year.
