Academic Units Join Sport Complex’s Summer Camp Programming

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI Sport Complex is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its popular Summer Day Camp program by pushing it to a whole new level this year.

The Complex will collaborate with five IUPUI-based schools to provide central Indiana students ages 5-12 with an even broader, more involving series of educational — and enjoyable — experiences.

The Summer Day Camp programs will run May 30 to August 4. Joining the Sport Complex in this year’s Summer Day Camps are:

• The Herron School of Art and Design;
• The Music Academy in the School of Music;
• The Young Scholars Program in the School of Education;
• The School of Science; and
• The School of Engineering & Technology.

This is the first year for the summer camp partnerships with Young Scholars and the schools of Music, Science, and Engineering & Technology.

“We are delighted to partner with these departments on the IUPUI campus as we celebrate 20 incredibly successful years of summer camp,” said Julie McKenney, director of the IUPUI Sport Complex. “Our campers are always highly motivated to remain active through our range of sports and enrichment, and now we have added a taste of academia to the program to broaden their experience.”

Campers can choose the half-day option which includes interactive projects with IUPUI professors or a full-day that also includes sports. Sessions run weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Costs are $160 per child for one week sessions; $130 for the four-day weeks that include Memorial Day and July 4.

The Sport Complex also is offering its annual Summer Sport Camps for ages 6-18, running from June to August 18.
