IUPUI Prepares for 2006 Day of Service to Honor Legacy of Dr. King, Volunteer Sign-Ups Underway

INDIANAPOLIS - Registration is now underway for the 2006 IUPUI Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Organized by undergraduate students through the Center for Service and Learning, the event will begin with a celebration breakfast at 8 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2006, at Hope Education Center, 1301 E. 16th St.

The Day of Service continues an IUPUI tradition of living out King's legacy of civic engagement by spending the holiday observed in his honor as a "day on" of service, rather than a day off. In 2005, more than 300 IUPUI faculty, staff and students participated.

Individuals interested in volunteering may sign up online at http://mlkday.uc.iupui.edu/ or call (317) 274-5198.

Volunteers may also sign up on campus on Monday, January 9; Tuesday, January 10; and Monday, December 12. Student organizers will man sign-up tables at University College from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9; and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10. Sign-up tables will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., December 15 under the Business school breezeway.

Volunteers are asked to sign up by January 11, 2006.
