Astronaut Mae Jemison to Deliver IUPUI King Dinner Keynote Address
The 36th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at the Marriot Ballroom 1-5, Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, 350 W. Maryland St. This year's theme is "His Vision Lives." After earning a chemical engineering degree from Stanford University and a medical degree from Cornell University, Dr. Jemison served as a medical officer with the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone and Liberia. She also practiced medicine in California before joining NASA in 1987. Jemison entered history books as the first African American woman astronaut during her mission aboard the space shuttle Endeavor in 1992. Today, Jemison is founder and president of two technology companies. Tickets for the dinner are on sale now at the IUPUI Campus and Community Life Office located in Room 002 of the University College building, 815 West Michigan St. All tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Prices are $25 for IUPUI undergraduate students; and $40 for faculty, staff, graduate students and community guests. Ticket sales will officially end at 5 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2006, or earlier, if the event sells out. Cash and checks made payable to IUPUI will be accepted for payment.
