Froehlich Appointed as Interim Vice Chancellor for Research at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz announced today that Janice Froehlich, Professor of Medicine, has been appointed Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Interim Associate Vice President for Research, effective immediately.

Dr. Froehlich follows Mark Brenner, who left IUPUI to serve as Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Dr. Froehlich is a Chancellor's Professor of Medicine with joint appointments as Professor in the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology and in the Medical Neurobiology Program. Her research focuses on alcoholism and addiction and she serves as Scientific Co-Director of the Indiana Alcohol Research Center.

“Dr. Froehlich’s research on the genetic and biological basis of alcoholism exemplifies the strength of IUPUI as Indiana’s health and life sciences campus. Research is vital to the future of Indiana,” Bantz said. “The research being conducted at IUPUI, which ranges from understanding the processes of addiction to enhancing the treatment of cancer, and from inventing new applications of information technology to understanding the environment of the White River, contributes to solving serious medical and social problems and spawning new business in the state of Indiana.”

"I am extremely pleased to have Dr. Froehlich's leadership as Interim Vice Chancellor for Research. "She will review the new structure for research and sponsored programs, the president's compliance initiative, and my challenge to double research and make recommendations that will better meet the needs of research investigators and will fuel our research program," Bantz said.
