Coleman Will Be "Reading At the Table"

Author Annie Gilbert Coleman

Author Annie Gilbert Coleman

INDIANAPOLIS - Annie Gilbert Coleman will entertain as well as enlighten the campus community about Ski Style: Sport and Culture in the Rockies when she appears November 30 from 11:30 to 1:00 in the University Faculty Club 's "Reading at the Table" lunch series. The "Reading at the Table" lunches are open to non-member faculty and staff as well as Faculty Club members.

Ski Style considers the interaction of consumer culture and landscape on the sport of skiing and the effect of the ski industry on America 's perception of its West. Said one reviewer, "Like a good ski run, Ski Style offers sensory pleasure and a variety of terrain. Filled with insights, Coleman's book should appeal to ski bums and snow bunnies, and to historians of sport, tourism, the west, race, and gender."

Dean Robert White of the School of Liberal Arts will introduce Dr. Coleman.

Following the cutting of the "Reader's Cake," Dr. Coleman will sign books for lunch guests. Copies of the books will be available at the event for $24.50 plus tax, or guests may bring their own copies.

The cost of the "Reading at the Table" lunch buffet, including drinks and dessert, is $10. Payment may be made by JagTag by non-members or members, or members may charge the luncheon to their accounts. Checks are accepted, but not cash or credit cards. Tax and gratuity will be added.

Space is limited and reservations are required. Reservations may be made by calling 274-7014 or e-mailing facclub@iupui.edu.

The November event is also sponsored by the JAGS Bookstore, IUPUI JagTag and the IU School of Liberal Arts.

To nominate someone with a recent book or an upcoming publication date for a "Reading at the Table," call 274-7014 or email facclub@iupui.edu and the RATT chair will answer the inquiry promptly.
