Second Annual IUPUI International Festival to be Held November 15INDIANAPOLIS - Take a whirl around the world without leaving campus at the second annual IUPUI International Festival. Sponsored by the IUPUI Office of International Affairs, along with the International Club, Go Abroad, Campus & Community Life, Chartwells, and Canteen, the festival is designed to let participants hear, taste, see, and feel the faraway lands and cultures represented here at IUPUI. International Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, in Room 115 and the Lower Level at University College. The festival is free and open to the public. The festival will include a photography exhibit by IUPUI Study Abroad students, interactive displays, henna tattooing, Chinese calligraphy and Farsi translations, information tables, ethnic food, music and dance, and international games, crafts and arts. A photo exhibit of Study Abroad images will open at 10 a.m. on November 15 in Room 115. The exhibit features images from winners of the 2005 Study Abroad photo contest. The International Club's drumming circle will provide interactive entertainment throughout the event, and at 12:15 the dance troupe Aftab, which is Persian for "sun," will perform. There will also be an International Best Dressed Contest in which participants are encouraged to don their ethnic and/or national clothing with an opportunity to win a cash prize. Contestants should check in with the judges' table at any time between 10 and 2. Participants in the festival include: African Student Association, Campus & Community Life, Chinese Culture Club, Economics, Engineering and Technology, Falun Dafa, Go Abroad Club, Global Gifts, Herron School of Art, Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, International Club, International Studies Major, Iranian Student Association, IU-Kenya Partnership/School of Medicine, Malaysian Student Association, School of Nursing, Office of International Affairs, School of Social Work, and World Languages and Cultures. Food will be provided through the generosity of Athens on 86th, The Bosphorus Cafe, Greek Islands, The Heidelberg Haus, El Morocco Restaurant, The Rathskeller, and The Thai House. |
