Dr. Jane Schultz Will Be "Reading at the Table" at the University Faculty Club October 26; Non-members Welcome!INDIANAPOLIS - Dr. Jane Schultz will be honored on October 26 from 11:30 to 1:00 in the University Faculty Club 's " Reading at the Table" lunch series. Dr. Schultz will be sharing stories from her book Women at the Front: Hospital Workers in Civil War America. The " Reading at the Table" lunches are open to non-member faculty and staff as well as Faculty Club members. Women at the Front was singled out as a finalist deserving "special mention" by the jury for the prestigious Lincoln Prize for 2004. The book looks at the broad cross section of female Americans from the North and South, of all ages and races, who served the medical world in often horrific circumstances during the Civil War and examines some of the misconceptions about who they were and why they served. Dr. David A. Ford, Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Programs, IU School of Liberal Arts, will introduce Dr. Schultz. Following the cutting of the "Reader's Cake," Dr. Schultz will sign books for lunch guests. Copies of the books will be available at a discount with a luncheon reservation or may be purchased at the event, or guests may bring their own copies. The cost of the " Reading at the Table" lunch buffet, including drinks and dessert, is $10. Guests also wanting to order the book of the day will receive a significant discount. For Women at the Front, a lunch reservation with the book included is $38.95, a savings of $6.00 on the book over the bookstore price. Payment may be made by JagTag by non-members or members, or members may charge the luncheon to their accounts. Checks are accepted, but not cash or credit cards. Tax and gratuity will be added. Space is limited and reservations are required. Reservations may be made by calling 274-7014 or e-mailing facclub@iupui.edu. The October 26 event is also sponsored by the JAGS Bookstore, IUPUI JagTag and the IU School of Liberal Arts. To nominate someone with an upcoming publication date for a " Reading at the Table," call 274-7014 or email facclub@iupui.edu and the RATT chair will answer the inquiry promptly. |
