International Conference to Promote Innovations in Technology EducationINDIANAPOLIS - About 700 registrants from all corners of the globe are expected to attend an upcoming conference devoted to innovations and improvements in computer science, engineering and technology education. The 2005 Frontiers in Education Conference will be held Oct. 19 - 22 at the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis Oct. 19-22. It is sponsored by the Educational Research and Methods Division of the American Society for Engineering Education and the Computer Society and the Education Society of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The conference continues a long tradition of promoting the widespread dissemination of innovations that improve computer science, engineering, and technology (CSET) education. This year's theme is "Pedagogies and Technologies for the Emerging Global Economy." CSET education faces significant challenges, such as rapidly evolving technologies, globalization, changing student demographics, and problems associated with funding higher education. Successfully addressing these issues will require innovative solutions, including use of new pedagogies and technologies that improve student learning; partnerships among universities, industry, government, and K-12 educators; curriculum reform; and distance learning. Conference organizers have solicited abstracts addressing changes foreseen for CSET education and CSET graduates because of predicted changes in the industries they will enter. The hosts for the conference are the Purdue University College of Engineering, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and the IUPUI School of Engineering and Technology. The conference is co-chaired by William Oakes of Purdue University, David Voltmer of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Charles Yokomoto of IUPUI.
