New IUPUI Events Calendar Offers Hundreds of EventsINDIANAPOLIS - A new IUPUI events calendar is faster than a speeding bullet, powerful enough to leap over campus buildings with a single bound and makes hundreds of events on campus and in Indianapolis just a mouse click away. The events calendar - events.iupui.edu/ - has more than 1,000 activities listed between September and the end of the year, divided into three main categories: Events on the IUPUI campus, Indy Arts, and In the City. The site combines calendar listings of the Arts Council of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association, and for IUPUI. The move to expand calendar listings was initially spurred by the desire of the Arts Council and IUPUI to make information about arts and cultural events more easily accessible to students, said Steve Hodges, IUPUI's Electronic Media Manager. Rather than create a separate arts and cultural events calendar, a decision was made to combine those events, with campus events, and add events posted on the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association calendar web site as well, he added. The result is an events calendar that probably lists the more Indianapolis events than any other event calendar in the city, Hodges said. The Events on Campus category lists 10 kinds of events, including: art and shows, Jags athletics, information technology, diversity and international calendar, lectures/seminars, student life, recreational sports and health calendar, careers, service, and alumni events. Under the Indy Arts category, visitors to the website can click on 15 types of events that involve art service, dance, cultural events, exhibitions, fairs, festivals, film and literature, galleries, museums, music, performing arts, storytelling, theatre, tours, and TV/Radio. The In The City category offers eight types of events: local music, festivals, sporting events, films and movies, dining reviews, consumer shows, heritage and history, and workshops. Visitors to events.iupui.edu can click on a particular day and pull up a list of events occurring that day from all three categories or first click on the category they want and then pull up that category's list of events for the day. The site also features a search function to search for a particular event. |
