Tech-ready Classrooms AvailableINDIANAPOLIS -- In a continuous effort to enhance the teaching and learning experience at IUPUI, University Information Technology Services (UITS) Classroom Services has upgraded 30 additional classrooms with computers and large screen projection. These enhanced technology classrooms at IUPUI include a permanently installed LCD projector and computer, an external interface to accommodate a laptop computer and a VCR/DVD/CD/MP3 combination player. These classrooms at IUPUI have identical Crestron control interfaces for faculty and include closed captioning. “These classroom upgrades represent the ever-changing climate of teaching and learning, as more mobile technology is integrated into daily living,” said Elizabeth Van Gordon, director of Learning Technology Operations for UITS at Indiana University. “Gone are the days when you would have to wait for mobile equipment delivery. IUPUI faculty now have access to technology at their fingertips, and can get on with the business at hand—teaching—which can only benefit students.” There are now 112 general purpose classrooms at IUPUI with permanently installed instructional technology equipment, a development that is part of Indiana University’s strategic information technology plan to bring the latest technology to the classroom. All academic spaces which support informal learning also have wireless connectivity. To view these classrooms or search all classrooms for specific equipment, click on http://www.iupui.edu/~uits/itr/classroom/classDB/index.html. “We encourage new and returning faculty to obtain a system passcode to access the classroom equipment at least one week before the fall semester begins,” said David Donaldson, manager of UITS Classroom Services. “Use of these classrooms requires all users to obtain a system passcode to activate the equipment.” Donaldson said the passcodes must be requested 48 hours in advance of use, and can be requested online at http://www.iupui.edu/~zone3/passwordRequestA.html or by calling the UITS Support Center at 274-HELP. The UITS Support Center can arrange training on the classroom technology and can also assist users in resolving technical difficulties. Instructions can also be found in each upgraded classroom and IU’s Knowledge Base at http://kb.iu.edu/. |
