Brenner to Leave IUPUI; Accepts Vice President Post at University of Nevada

Mark Brenner

Mark Brenner, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education

Mark Brenner, who has served for seven years as Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education at IUPUI, has been selected as Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).

Brenner's last day at IUPUI will be August 31.

As vice chancellor for research and graduate education at IUPUI, Brenner has been responsible for the administration of research and sponsored programs. He is respected for his national reputation on issues of research compliance and development of the Electronic Research Administration (ERA).

Nevada is the fastest growing state in the country and UNR has been experiencing dramatic increases in enrollment. UNR currently has 76 master degree programs, 39 doctoral programs, and 12 professional programs in 10 colleges. UNR's sponsored funding has been growing at a steady rate of eight percent.

"I found the opportunity irresistible," Brenner said, "and I have accepted the offer to help guide the research and graduate education programs at a university that is positioned to undergo rapid growth."

"It is truly with mixed emotions that I will be leaving IUPUI and Indiana University. I am proud of the fact that I am leaving with a substantially enhanced research administration organization compared to when I arrived seven years ago," he noted.

With Sherry Queener as his Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, Brenner said his office has dramatically changed graduate education on the IUPUI campus. It has created numerous new graduate programs, including graduate certificates, masters and Ph.D. programs. In partnership with Nancy Chism, associate vice chancellor for academic affaris, the office developed a viable Preparing Future Faculty program (PFF). Involving master degree students in the PFF program has the potential of being a new national model, he noted.
