IUPUI University Library installs three new Community Board AdvocatesINDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI University Library Community Board inducted three community leaders into its Community Board Advocates "Class of 2008." Those installed include Marilyn S. Bartlett, professor emeritus; Mark Firmin, the vice president and general manager of ACOM Solutions Financial Documents Division; and Andrea Morehead, anchor for WTHR Channel 13 Eyewitness News. Marilyn Bartlett has served as a professor at Indiana University School of Medicine, an assistant director for the Clinical Parasitology and Mycology Laboratory at the Indiana University Medical Center, and a director of the research laboratory studying Pneumocystis carinii. "I have used libraries a great deal to do my research and in developing curricula for teaching; therefore, I have great appreciation for appropriate library facilities," she said. She is a recipient of the South Central Association for Clinical Microbiology Award for Outstanding Contribution to Clinical Microbiology and a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award. Marilyn is an alumna of Purdue University and Indiana University. Mark Firmin is responsible for developing and implementing direct sales and marketing strategies and programs for ACOM Solution's Financial Document Division, a check production solution for banks and credit unions. "I am passionate about learning, and I believe a library is a fundamental bedrock of education," he said. Mark was formerly vice president of Formula One Systems in Atlanta, Georgia. Andrea Morehead anchors Indianapolis' WTHT Channel 13 Eyewitness News. As a communications and journalism professional, Morehead has been a news anchor for Grand Rapids, Michigan's WOOD TV8; a reporting anchor for WGMC TV in Worchester, Massachusetts; and a reporter, assistant producer and assignment editor at Indianapolis' WXIN. She began her television broadcasting career at Koppel Communication in Washington, D.C. In 1995 she took a hiatus from her communications career to become a Management Council Law Clerk for the National Football League in New York. Andrea is an alumna of Indiana University School of Law. For the next three years, the new advocates will work with members of the board to support the development of the University Library's Information Commons, to position the library as a Public Academic Library, and to facilitate other library initiatives. Current board members Dickie Hardee, Maureen Purcell and Henry C. Ryder will continue to serve on the board as members of the "Class of 2008." Continuing as the Community Board's chair and vice chair are Barbara Fischler and Linda Reddington.### |
