Crispus Attucks Middle School to Receive Money, Books, from IUPUIINDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI University Library Dean David Lewis will present school officials at Crispus Attucks Middle School with a check for $1,094 and 175 Scholastic books Friday, April 15, 2005. The money and books were raised during a Scholastic Book Fair for Crispus Attucks Middle School that was held at University Library earlier this year. University Library and the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at IUPUI sponsored a Scholastic book fair earlier this year to support the library book collection and reading literacy curriculum at Crispus Attucks. The event underscores the commitment of University Library to provide an unparalleled source of information for our neighbors and to reach out to help build strong neighborhood public school libraries, Lewis said. "Research shows that academic achievement increases in schools with strong libraries and this program provides resources that can help jump-start young people along the path to academic success." The book fair is a part of the library's Basketball and Books program that promotes reading literacy and scholarly athletics. Lewis will present the check and books at 10 a.m. Friday. |
