IUPUI Athletics to Host Online Auction Fund-raiser

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department will hold an online auction April 22 to May 2, 2005 in order to raise funds for scholarships. All bidding will take place on eBay . The online auction w ill replace the previous live auction, which raised more than $100,000 the past three years.

Bidding will begin at 6 p.m. EST on April 22 and conclude at 6 pm EST on May 2.

"The Athletics Department is extremely excited for the program's first online auction," IUPUI Director of Athletics Development Eric Utterback said. "This is a great opportunity for those with IUPUI connections living around the world to have the opportunity to take part in one of our largest events.

"Also, by breaking down the geographical barriers, we are increasing our chances to raise more money to help support our student-athletes."

Items range from sports memorabilia, trips, event tickets and collectibles, including an Ambassadair day trip, an Arnold Palmer autographed hat and other signed keepsakes. The items are collected through donations by IUPUI, university alumni, fans and supporters.

For additional information, check the IUPUI Athletics Web site at www.iupui.edu/~jagsport. An auction item preview site will be available on the Web site in the near future.

"I encourage all IUPUI Jaguars enthusiasts to check out the auction," IUPUI Director of Athletics Mike Moore said. "Any purchase will go a long way to providing the external support we require to be competitive in NCAA Division I athletics."

The IUPUI Athletics Department sponsors 14 varsity programs and over 200 student-athletes. The department has twice been recognized by USA Today newspaper for NCAA Academic Achievement Awards and has had four different programs compete in the NCAA Tournament since joining the Division I ranks in 1998-99.
