IUPUI Adaptive Educational Services to Receive Easter Seals Award

INDIANAPOLIS - In recognition of campus support for students with disabilities, Easter Seals Crossroads presented a 2005 award of appreciation to IUPUI on Wednesday (March 16).

The IUPUI Adaptive Educational Services (AES) unit received the Job Training and Employment Award during the 44th Annual Easter Seals Crossroads Business Lunch which begins at noon Wednesday in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis.

AES works with IUPUI students and faculty to coordinate and provide classroom accommodations to meet special needs for students with disabilities while maintaining high academic standards. Services provided include access to tape libraries, access to a Perkins Brailler, computers designed for dexterity or visually impaired students, classroom interpreters, aand library technology for visually impaired students and students with learning disabilities.

The Job Training and Employment award recognizes an agency or organization who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in helping individuals with disabilities reach their educational and employment goals, said Wade Wingler, manager of technology services at Easter Seals Crossroads.

"IUPUI does a great job with its Adaptive Education Lab and adaptive educational services in helping students with disabilities reach their educational and employment goals," Wingler said.

The Job Training and Employment award is one of several awards that Easter Seals Crossroads will present during the lunch. College basketball analyst Rich Majerus will be the featured luncheon speaker.
