Longtime Professor to Serve as Interim DeanINDIANAPOLIS - Professor Susanah M. Mead will take over the helm of the IU School of Law-Indianapolis as interim dean, effective June 2005. Mead, who has served on the school's faculty since 1978, is the first woman selected to head the school located on the IUPUI campus. Mead will replace current Dean Anthony Tarr who is leaving the IUPUI campus for the University of South Pacific where he has been named as vice-chancellor, a position which in the British tradition is equivalent to that of the president at an American university. IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz and Executive Vice Chancellor William M. Plater announced Mead's appointment in December. "In this time of transition, we are fortunate that Susie Mead is willing to share her experience, energy and insight.Known to all of the faculty, staff and students, Susie will ensure leadership and continuity," Chancellor Bantz said. Mead will be the first woman in the law school's 110-year history to lead the institution. In addition to her work as a professor, Mead also has significant administrative experience, having served as associate dean for academic affairs from 1997 to 2004. Bantz also announced that a search committee for a permanent dean will be appointed in the spring of 2005. |
