IUPUI
HONORS TWO FORMER FEMALE ATHLETES
INDIANAPOLIS - The top two all-time scorers for IUPUI women's basketball were inducted into the IUPUI Athletics Hall of Fame on Jan. 25 at the NCAA Headquarters.
The Hall of Fame Banquet, sponsored by the Jaguars Letter Club and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, honored former basketball player Julie Rotramel Meeks and former basketball and softball player Mary "Muffy" Murphy Price.
Meeks, a 1992 IUPUI graduate, is the all-time leading scorer for IUPUI women's basketball with 1,809 career points. She also holds the record for the most three-pointers scored and is second in assists. While at IUPUI, Meeks received the Top Female Athlete Academic Award and was one of the top ten players in the nation for three-point shooting. She was twice selected NAIA All-District 21 and was named both Kodak and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American her senior year. After graduating with a degree in physical education, Meeks went on to coach and teach at several high schools. She now lives in Carlisle, Ind. with her husband where she is the head girl's basketball coach at Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Ind.
"IUPUI has helped me to achieve a career and success that will last a lifetime," she said.
Price, second to Meeks in career scoring with 1,469 points, holds more records than any other IUPUI women's basketball player. A 1993 graduate from the School of Physical Education, she holds the school record for assists and the women's basketball record for free throw percentage and three-pointers made and attempted. Price was also named NAIA Third-Team All-American, Kodak All-American and NAIA All-District. Price not only excelled in basketball, but in softball as well in which she was named Second Team NAIA All-American and NAIA All-District. Price also ranks third in school history for career assists in softball. She is now a physical education and health teacher at St. Gabriel Catholic School and lives on the westside of Indianapolis (46222) with her two young children and husband.
An IUPUI selection committee chooses inductees based on current and past achievements from a group of nominated candidates. Hall of Fame members include former athletes, coaches and athletic directors.
