New Online Directory Available for IU/IUPUI Alumni

INDIANAPOLIS - IU and IUPUI alumni can now search a new online directory for almost 500,000 fellow classmates. The directory allows users to search by demographic data, class year, school and a variety of "interest groups" such as Little 500 riders, fraternities and sororities, or clubs.

Records include names, addresses, and academic information. Detailed information will not be available for people who have requested that their records remain private. There's even an option to send an e-mail message to someone, without that person's e-mail address being shown.

"We are trying to make the online directory useful without infringing on anyone's privacy," says Ted Boardman, IU Alumni Assocation (IUAA) communications technology editor, who wrote the program for the online directory. "When you register, you decide what to display and what to hide."

Go to the online directory link at www.alumni.indiana.edu to log on. You first must register by providing your name, date of birth, and either the last four digits of your student I.D. or your alumni record number, which is found on your Indiana Alumni Magazine mailing label. You then will be prompted to create a user name and password. If the directory cannot find you and your record should be included, contact the records department at (800) 824-3044.

"In the near future, we will be adding searchable class notes, including all class notes submitted online or mailed to us from this point forward," says Boardman. "We hope that people will use the directory as a resource for finding friends and sharing information about themselves."
