IUPUI Moving Company to Perform at Local Venues

INDIANAPOLIS - Members of the IUPUI Moving Company will be taking the stage at two different venues this month.

The IUPUI Moving Company will hold its annual spring performance entitled "DreamLives" at the Madame Walker Theatre on Sunday, April 8 at 3 p.m. On Wednesday, April 11 at 12:15 p.m., the troupe will also perform at the Artsgarden in Circle Center Mall.

The spring performance's title piece is choreographed by Director Paige Prill Craigie with music by Modest Mussorgsky. The Moving Company also has two guest choreographers this year. Melissa McCorkle is a graduate in modern dance pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. She has performed with the Singapore Dance Ensemble and Pearl Lang Dance Theatre and most currently with the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble. Preeti Vasudevan is a performer and choreographer in the communicative dance of Bharatanatyam. While based in Indianapolis, her work has taken her around the world to places like India and Japan. In 1999, she was awarded a Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship from the Arts Council of Indiananpolis.

The Moving Company will also perform the works of students Chrissy Bradshaw and Alexis Kilmark, Shannon Dow, Latin Caldwell-Rhodes and Christine Curtis.The works were adjudicated at the student choreography concert at the Indiana Historical Society in February.

The IUPUI Moving Company, in its eighteenth year, is a performing dance company made up of members from a variety of academic backgrounds. The Moving Company also doubles as a class, Modern Dance Workshop, taught by Craigie.
