LEVIN TO DISCUSS HIS WORK ON HOLOCAUST-RELATED LITIGATION, RECEIVE LAW SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION'S HIGHEST AWARD AT ALUMNI BANQUET

INDIANAPOLIS - IU School of Law-Indianapolis alumnus Irwin B. Levin will receive the law school Alumni Association's highest award and discuss his work on Holocaust-related litigation at the school's 2001 Alumni Banquet.

Levin, named the law school's 2001 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, will be the featured speaker for the banquet that will be held Friday, Nov. 2, on the IUPUI campus in the atrium of Lawrence W. Inlow Hall, 530 W. New York St. The 22nd annual banquet will open with a 6:30 p.m. reception, followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Beginning at 8:30 p.m., Levin will present "Evil Beyond the Boundaries of Law: The Lessons of History." During his talk, Levin will share some of the moving stories he encountered while working on Holocaust-related litigation involving Swiss and German banks. The case culminated in a $1.25 billion settlement.

"Not only has Mr. Levin been involved as a lead attorney in a number of highly publicized and important cases, but he has demonstrated anew the important contribution that lawyers can make in vindicating the rule of law and serving the needs of justice," said Norman Lefstein, dean of the IU School of Law-Indianapolis.

"Mr. Levin's work in the Holocaust litigation should make all attorneys proud to be members of the profession," the dean said.

Levin has practiced law at the Indianapolis firm Cohen & Malad, P.C. for more than 20 years. Commercial litigation and class actions have been his primary focus. He was lead counsel in the Indianapolis Ramada Inn/United States Air Force crash and the Greenwood air crash disasters.

The 1978 graduate of the law school on the campus of IUPUI also serves on the boards of numerous Jewish and civic organizations.

Banquet tickets are $55 for general admission, or $40 for 2000 and 2001 IU School of Law-Indianapolis graduates. Tours of Inlow Hall, the new law school building, will be available following Levin's presentation.

For reservations, call (317) 274-8828 by October 26. Early registration is advised.
