FIRST ANNUAL INDIANA LATINO COLLEGIATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE SET; CONFERENCE CO-SPONSORED BY IU BLOOMINGTON AND IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS - The Latino communities of IUPUI and IU Bloomington are co-sponsoring a conference designed to foster and encourage Latino student leaders, and to assist in the development of the state's Latino college student population into well-rounded altruistic leaders.

More than 100 Latino collegiate leaders are expected to attend the first annual Indiana Latino Collegiate Leadership Conference Saturday, March 31 at Indiana University Bloomington. The Theme is "Liberation Through Education."

"The primary goal of the event is to provide a medium in which people can organize and discuss the issues that face them," said event chairman and IU student Edward Vargas. Such discussion can lead to solutions.

Special guest speakers for the event include Juan Andrade, president of US Hispanic Leadership Institute; and Dr. Gerardo Gonzalez, dean of the IU School of Education.

Other speakers scheduled include: actor Jesse Borego, "Cruzito" in the Hollywood film "Bound By Honor;" Michelle Castillo-Flores, INROADS; Roberto N. Ceballos, La Casa of NWI, Inc.; Ann Marie Pagan, operations manager for WBBM-TV in Chicago; Teresa Puente, staff writer, Chicago Tribune; Maria Quiroz-Southwood, Wishard Health Services; and Natalia Rayzor, Indiana University Credit Union.

Deadline for registration is March 23, 2001.
