Partnership Brings Free Classes to Housing Agency Sites, While Providing Students a Way to Practice Their Trade

I-STEM Efforts Receive Lilly Endowment Boost

Court Upheld Use of MySpace as Evidence

Depression Leads to Increased Inflammatory Protein Linked to Heart Disease
Congoo, Oct. 9, 2009 - Researchers at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis opine that depression leads to elevated inflammatory proteins in the human body.

Led by IUPUI Professor Jesse Stewart (Purdue School of Science) researchers found that depressive symptoms are associated with increases over time in interleukin-6, an inflammatory protein that predicts cardiovascular events.

National League of Nursing Swears in New President-Elect
NLN News, Oct. 9, 2009 - The National League of Nursing membership welcomed a new president-elect. Judith Halstead, executive associate dean for academic affairs and a professor in the School of Nursing at IUPUI, will serve for the next two years before stepping into the presidency in 2011.

IUPUI Dedicates Med Center Building

Musical Therapy Lifts Spirits, Eases Pain and Anxiety
Indianapolis Star, Oct. 8, 2009 - A growing body of research shows that music helps to decrease pain and blood pressure; improve language skills in stroke victims and others; ease anxiety before surgeries and in stressful times.

"It buffers some of the chaos and brings normalization to something that is not normal," said Debra Burns (Purdue School of Engineering and Technology), coordinator of the music therapy program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
